BALLET

Ballet is the first genre offered by Dance Inspirations. Children start in our Preschool class and then progress onto Pre primary classes.  Children are able to take their Pre Primary exam from age 5. If a child or parent is not interested in taking an exam in order to progress to the next level, the Principal will move the child up to the next class when they are ready, taking into consideration both the skills and necessary social readiness.

Ballet dance is very good for children's development; physically, emotionally, cognitively and socially.  It is often the first activity a child takes part in without their parent being present. (from pre primary we ask our parents to wait outside the door, although they can see into the room at all times). Initially ballet doesn't look particularly emotional, however ballet teaches children discipline and confidence, which can help with emotional maturity.  In ballet class, children need to follow directions closely, which in turn helps them to develop and learn to be part of a class, standing them in good stead for many activities they will encounter in their lives.

TAP DANCE

Tap dance gets your feet moving and your heart pumping.  Children are initially enticed by the noise of the shoes, but they soon learn to enjoy the challenge of intricate moves and rhythms that get progressively harder as they improve. Dance Inspirations advise that children start tap dance at 4yrs old given the dexterity of the feet and balance that is required. All our tap classes are on a Tuesday at St Mary’s Stoke Bishop.

MODERN DANCE

What is modern dance and why will my child enjoy it? The ISTD describes modern dance as... a rhythmic dance style which originated in America before travelling to the rest of the world. It is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility. This is a highly energetic dance style. Dance Inspirations offers classes from 4 1/2 yrs on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. The children will have the opportunity to explore a range of styles from lyrical to jazz, together with a range of exercises for strengthening and flexibility.

CONTEMPORARY DANCE

Becoming increasingly popular in recent years, contemporary dance offers children a break from the slightly more structured classes offered by Dance Inspirations.  Encouraging improvisation and freedom of movement, our classes are a fantastic opportunity for students to let out their creative side.

ACRO-Dance

Acro is not gymnastics and there is no equipment involved. Once perfected all skills are performed without mats. Although these are used for safety during the acquisition of skills. It is designed to add interest to dance routines and compliment dancers training.  Our classes start with a warm up, moving on to work on limbering, strengthening, balance, tumbling and flexibility. Whilst learning new skills safely and having fun being upside down. Classes start from 4yrs old and take place on a Saturday morning at Golden Hill Sports Club and Wednesday afternoons at Bradbury Hall. Acro classes are taught by Miss Sophie, who used to compete in elite gymnastics before pursuing her dance career.
